Deep Ocean Bathymetric Imaging with GLORI-B
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper describes the bathymetric imaging and pro cessing of the GLORI B system GLORI B is a deep ocean sidescan sonar surveying device which is able to produce bathymetry measurements and images of the sea oor in swaths of up to km wide The basics of the GLORI B system are described and then the vari ous stages of processing the received data to transform it into a geographically registered bathymetric record are given A brief discussion of the major sources of error is also provided

Statistical modeling of a former Arctic Ocean ice shelf complex using Antarctic analogies
Geophysical mapping and coring of the central Arctic Ocean seafloor provide evidence for repeated occurrences of ice sheet/ice shelf complexes during previous glacial periods. Several ridges and bathymetric highs shallower than present water depths of 1000m show signs of erosion from deep-drafting (armadas of) icebergs, which originated from thick outlet glaciers and ice shelves. Mapped glacig...
متن کاملOn the weak impact of the 26 December Indian Ocean tsunami on the Bangladesh coast
The 26 December 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami damaged severely most of the Gulf of Bengal’s coastal areas, but the coast of Bangladesh which stands at the edge of an extraordinarily extended continental shelf. This latter feature has been built through huge discharges of river sediments along the Brahmaputra and Ganges rivers. As a result of this enormous discharge, another interesting feature of t...
متن کاملSpecies Distribution Models of Tropical Deep-Sea Snappers
Deep-sea fisheries provide an important source of protein to Pacific Island countries and territories that are highly dependent on fish for food security. However, spatial management of these deep-sea habitats is hindered by insufficient data. We developed species distribution models using spatially limited presence data for the main harvested species in the Western Central Pacific Ocean. We us...
متن کاملThe Mediterranean deep-sea fauna: historical evolution, bathymetric variations and geographical changes
The deep-water fauna of the Mediterranean is characterized by an absence of distinctive characteristics and by a relative impoverishment. Both are a result of events after the Messinian salinity crisis (Late Miocene). The three main classes of phenomena involved in producing or recording these effects are analysed and discussed: Historical: Sequential faunal changes during the Pliocene and ther...
متن کاملBathymetric stripping corrections to gravity gradient components
To allow for geophysical interpretation of observed gravity gradients, several corrections must be applied. In this article expressions for gravimetric forward modeling of bathymetric (ocean density contrast) stripping corrections to GOCE gravity gradient observables are evaluated numerically. The generic expression for the bathymetric gravitational potential utilizes a depth-dependent seawater...
